General Chambers

From The Galveston Daily News, Sunday March 21, 1865

The announcement of the death of Gen. Chambers reached here by private telegram last night. He was shot by some unknown person, while sitting at his table on Wednesday night. Gen. Chambers is one of the oldest citizens of Texas, has been identified with its earliest history, and his sudden death will be felt as a public calamity.

We learn that his body was perforated with four buck-shot, and that he lived but a short time after.
