The Chambers County Historical Commission recently recognized the Santa Fe Railroad Depot in Winnie by displaying an Old House Recognition Sign in front of the depot. Commission members present to place the sign were Bob Wheat, Chair; R.B. Scherer, Jr., Vice Chair; Kay Willcox, Secretary; and Kenneth Standley, long time member of the Commission.

The group was welcomed by Winnie Chamber of Commerce members Melissa Hodges, Paul Keating, Bill Keating, Grilean McCall and Brenda Wilbur along with Robert and Mary Bauer, who are also members of the Winnie Agricultural Museum. The depot was moved from its original location and is now located adjacent to the Museum. Through the efforts of the Winnie-Stowell community, the depot has been restored and is now the office for the Winnie-Stowell Chamber of Commerce.

Commission members enjoyed refreshments served by the Chamber and were provided with a tour of the Agricultural Museum. The museum is home to various pieces of farm machinery and tools that depict the history of agriculture in Chambers County. The Commission will be recognizing other houses and structures of historical significance in the Winnie-Stowell area
