CHAMBERS COUNTY HISTORICAL COMMISSION RECOGNIZES OLD HOUSE AT ROUND POINT

January 7, 2007

The Chambers County Historical Commission recently placed an Old House Recognition Sign in front of the home of Jewel Key at Round Point. It is located about three miles south of Anahuac on the shoreline of Trinity Bay.

The house was originally built by Philip A. Huffman. For many years, it was the home of Desire Dunken “Dick” Wilcox and his wife Callie Belle Jenney, parents of Jewel Key. Ms. Key and her three brothers grew up in this house.

General Thomas Jefferson Chambers once lived on the site and he allegedly shot John O’Brian over possession of the land. The site is in the original Anson Taylor survey and bears a great significance to Chambers County history.

Anyone wishing to nominate a house for recognition may call CCHC.
