Historic Home Recognized

The Chambers County Historical Commission recently recognized the house that was built by John and Edna Syer, located on Bolivar Avenue in Anahuac
.

The house was built in 1936 by Mr. Meitzen, a local carpenter. Some of the material used in the house was taken from previous structures as the interior walls are covered with several different dimensions of lumber.

Mrs. Syer’s parents, Seth and Phoebe Willcox also lived in the house and it was the site of numerous town parties. As was common with many of the older houses, the living room was used for viewing the body of family members that passed away. The house is currently owned by Terry and Myra Norma.

Pictured with the recognition sign are left to right, Kay Willcox, Terry Norman, Myra Norman, Kenneth Standley, Bob Wheat and Betty Gail Benningfield.
