HISTORICAL COMMISSION AWARDS ESSAY WINNERS

 

The first place winner in the seventh grade was Samantha Austin-West and the runners up were Melissa Gearhart, Shelby Speer, Christian Tems, Trey Dobson and Robby Gonzales.

 

Winner of first place in the eighth grade was Tara Frazier, followed by runners up Grayson Long, Carlie Rhodes, Caitlin Rhodes. Alexander Rowlett, Jonathan Tanner and Dakarai Moton

 


The Chambers County Historical Commission recently recognized the winners of the 2008 Historical Essay Contest. Again for the third year, the Barbers Hill Middle School was unchallenged, as there were no participants from Anahuac or East Chambers Schools . There were over 140 essays submitted by the seventh and eighth grades. A trophy and U.S. Savings Bond was presented to the first place winners in each grade and trophies were presented to the runners up.

The awards were presented by R.B. Scherer, Jr., Vice Chair of the Historical Commission during the Awards Ceremony for the Middle School. Teacher Ron Stephens is to be commended for generating such great interest in Chambers County history as participation has grown each year. He is supported by Middle School Principal Cindy Price and Superintendent Dr. Greg Poole.
