CHAMBERS COUNTY HISTORICAL COMMISSION COMPLETES TRAINING

The Chambers County Historical Commission members completed the last session of membership training during a regular meeting last week. The training is now required by the Texas Historical Commission and it was conducted by Karla Dean, local teacher and commission member. The last session covered History Preservation.

The regular meeting was conducted by Chair Bob Wheat and the various committees reported on their activities. Mr. Wheat informed the members that the Chambers County Commissioners Court has approved a part time employee to work in the Archive/Museum Building three days a week. This will allow the building to be better utilized by the general public as well as tourist that visit the area.

The Commission will also participate in the upcoming events to celebrate the 150th birthday of Chambers County. The Archive/Museum Building will be open for the kick off event on February 11th at the County Courthouse.

The Commission meets on the fourth Saturday of each month at 9:00 a.m. and the public is invited to attend. Anyone with information concerning historical structures or cemeteries are urged to attend or to contact the Historical Commission, as these are two of the ongoing projects within the Commission.
