Margie Henry, Chambers County Tax Assessor Collector, was the featured speaker at the Chambers County Historical Commission Meeting conducted on February 24th, 2007.

The meeting was held in the Wooden Spoon Restaurant with approximately twenty four members and guest present. Ms. Henry spoke of the years that she has lived in Anahuac, noting that she had moved here some forty five years ago. Her late husband, Gladman Henry was one of the first permanent DPS Troopers to be stationed in Anahuac. She commended the Commission members for the work that is being accomplished to preserve and promote Chambers County history.

The main topic of Commission business, was the upcoming celebration recognizing the 175th anniversary of the Battle at Anahuac. The celebration will be held in Fort Anahuac Park on Saturday, June 9, 2007. The various committee chairs reported on their activities and much progress has been made in preparation for the event. The program will consist of a parade, the appearance of a group of Buffalo Soldiers from the Houston Camp, various craft and food booths and a reenactment of the battle. The community is encouraged to take part and attend the ceremonies.
