News Release
2006-2007 TITR Board of Directors

For Immediate Release
July 27, 2006

Three new board members have joined the Texas Independence Trail Region's (TITR) board of directors. Keith Godwin is the Brenham/Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau Manager. Also joining the board is Christy Carl, Director of the Galveston County Historical Museum. And finally, Torie Blakely is the Executive Assistant for the Wharton Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture.

“The Texas Independence Trail Region board of directors is excited to have these new board members join our ranks,” says TITR Coordinator, Seneca McAdams. “The new members will have some big shoes to fill.” Due to two term limits, four board members are going off the board as of Aug. 2006: Peggy Spradley of the Sealy Chamber of Commerce, Cathy Chaloupka of the Round Top Chamber of Commerce, Roberta Ripke of the Matagorda County Historical Commission, and Barbara Hand of the Gonzales Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture.

The board also named the executive committee at the July 26 meeting held at Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site. The executive committee is as follows: President – Vicki Woodard of the Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce, Vice President – Tonya Britton of the Columbus Convention and Visitors Bureau and Economic Development Corporation, Treasurer – Edith Fischer of the Brazosport Convention and Visitors Council, Secretary – Bob Scherer of the Chambers County Historical Commission, and Past President – Sherry Nefford of the Seguin Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Filling out the rest of the 2006-2007 board of directors are: David Stewart of The Alamo, Bryan McAuley of the George Ranch Historical Park, Howard Esse of Crossroads Legal Video, and Ona Lea Pierce of the Matagorda County Historical Commission.

The board of directors is responsible for shaping the direction of the TITR work plan and implementation. This is an active volunteer board and a great opportunity to help promote the heritage and cultural tourism program in the 28 county southeast Texas region. Board meetings are held bi-monthly in different communities in the region.

The Texas Independence Trail Region (TITR) is comprised of 28 counties in southeast Texas. This encompasses San Antonio, Houston, Galveston, Brenham, Victoria, and Goliad. The TITR is one of the heritage trails under the Texas Historical Commission's Texas Heritage Trails Program. The Texas Heritage Trails Program received the Preserve America Presidential Award in Washington DC in May 2005. The purpose of this program is to preserve, promote, and educate in the name of cultural and heritage assets.
