The Chambers County Historical Commission will conduct a re-enactment of the lives of Capt. William Icet and his wife Mary Emily Blanchet Icet at the Icet Family Cemetery on Sunday, June 25, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. Capt. Icet will be portrayed by Jay Icet, a great great grandson, while great granddaughter, Pat Dyer, will portray his wife. Capt. Icet and his brother-in-law, Peter Constant Blanchet, joined the Confederate Navy in 1861, and became blockade runners. At the end of the war, Capt. Icet built a shipyard and ways along with a saw mill and cotton gin on the banks of Old River at Cove. The Icet Cemetery is located on FM 565, 3/4 mile north of IH-10, on the south side of Icet Gully. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. |
