The Alamo Hosts the Texian Rally 2007

Mark your calendars for the Texas Independence Trail Region’s (TITR) Texian Rally 2007. The seventh annual workshop will be held Tuesday, January 30, 2007, with a pre-Rally tour available on the day before. This year the workshop will be held at The Alamo in downtown San Antonio.

The Daughters of the Republic of Texas and Director of The Alamo, David Stewart, submitted the bid. Not only will the Alamo Complex be utilized for this event, but the Historic Menger Hotel will be used for one of the afternoon sessions.

“We are excited about the opportunity to bring this workshop to one of the two metropolitan cities we have in the Texas Independence Trail Region,” says Seneca McAdams, TITR coordinator. “We anticipate drawing on not only our rural community associates, but some of our partners in San Antonio as well.”

The purpose of this workshop is to gain more knowledge of this segment of the tourism industry. This workshop speaks to a wide audience: chambers of commerce, historical and genealogical societies, bed and breakfasts, museum personnel, and those interested in increasing their community’s heritage tourism opportunities. The workshop will be held 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Details of speakers and topics will be coming in the next few months.

The Alamo and TITR will also have an afternoon pre-Rally tour on Monday, January 29, through the newly restored San Fernando Cathedral and the Historic Menger Hotel. After a no-host dinner on the San Antonio Riverwalk, a special after hours visit to the Alamo Complex will complete the evening.

The Texas Independence Trail Region (TITR) is comprised of 28 counties in southeast Texas. This encompasses San Antonio, Houston, Galveston, Brenham, Victoria, and Goliad. The TITR is one of the heritage trails under the Texas Historical Commission’s Texas Heritage Trails Program. The Texas Heritage Trails Program received the Preserve America Presidential Award in Washington DC in May 2005. The purpose of this program is to preserve, promote, and educate in the name of cultural and heritage assets.
